ARTIST'S STATEMENT
As a multidisciplinary conceptual artist, communication of the underlying concept is of primary importance, and media, space and presentation are selected exclusively per project. My works create an oscillation between the role of the image and the role of the viewer. The intention is to make the viewer aware of their thoughts on the subject, and of their reaction to the awareness, ideally putting them in a state of mind to contemplate both. Sometimes I use novelty to attract the viewer and then draw them into a deeper experience and message. New technologies easily provide that novelty.
Recurring themes include the formation of and awareness of identity, broader human universals, and my personal epiphanies as I try to understand and negotiate the specific physical, familial, societal and spiritual influences which influence my life on earth.
I am based in New York City and exhibit nationally and abroad.

CURRENT WORKS
Through experimentation and accident, I discover traditional and doctored 3D techniques to use as springboards. Display screens and projections are paired with a variety of types of cardboard 3D glasses to create unique visual and visceral experiences. Donning the 3D glasses focuses attention, deters interruptions and sets a festive communal group experience atmosphere. The viewer expects, due to past associations, light entertainment with standard kitchy 3D pictures. The altered 3D effects surprise the mind with a new and unexpected experience; this holds the attention. This novelty paired with the brain's challenge to "see" in a new way can result in a myriad of emotional states, such as fascination, euphoria, physical discomfort, dizziness, anxiety, ambiguity, excitement, exasperation, accomplishment, defeat, and / or an adrenaline rush which reinforce the more serious themes in the body of work (discomfort with the political realm, transitions in climate change). Sequencing the images and/or videos, preferably in a live presentation, occasionally with contemplative narration, simultaneously slows the pace with which the subject matter is absorbed, allowing for a deeper cumulative interpretation. The slow, soothing, paced, feminine voice-over penetrates, instead of competes with, the rest of the experience to ensure the message is absorbed.
